Pretty On The Outside is a fantastic closer and encourages me to listen to the album again and stay within Bullet For My Valentine’s greater catalogue of music. Although the guitar, bass guitar, and drum work is a standout element.īittersweet Memories could have been a nightmare another campy tune, but it isn’t and is thoroughly enjoyable and that closing is to die for.īegging For Mercy is a tremendous drum-focused song, but the compression in the cymbals is distracting which is a shame because it is otherwise exceptional. Pleasure And Pain returns us to the furious rhythm, with a melodic chorus, and I couldn’t be happier as it’s an all-round perfect song.Īlone is incredible a true highlight and one of the best songs on Fever.īreaking Out, Breaking Down isn’t bad, but it isn’t anything to write home about either. It isn’t bad, but it sounds more pop-focused than the rest of the songs on Fever. The Last Fight is a killer tune! I love that guitar solo and wish it was a little longer but it is absolutely perfect for this song.Ī Place Where You Belong shifts the style and sounds a little campy, especially with that guitar riff. It isn’t nearly as bad as many other examples, such as Velvet Revolver’s Contraband, but it is noticeable. The only negative aspect I feel here is a slight crunching in the cymbal elements. If your not headbanging, with the volume turned up, you’re listening wrong. Your Betrayal is a thunderous opening for Fever I love it!įever continues the furious rhythm. That may be blasphemous to some, but the CD does sound really good and allows me to rock out at both reasonable and ear-bleeding volume levels. As such, this music-loving-vinyl-fan is more than happy to admit that in this particular case, the CD sounds incredible and I don’t feel that the vinyl counterpart would offer a better musical experience for this particular album. Yes, by the numbers alone, the vinyl release has a dynamic range that is more than double that of the CD counterpart according to results found on the Dynamic Range DB, but Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound did a fantastic job mastering this album and as such the stereo staging is superb with clear definition between elements and while there is a little cymbal crunching in a couple of songs, sonic wonders such as Alone are a pleasure to behold. Nevertheless, at a third of the cost of the vinyl equivalent, one has to really consider where they put their hard-earned dollars. While gold CDs are often touted for their sonic improvements due to purportedly less read errors, and the CD is most certainly gold in appearance, you can guarantee that there is no gold component, other than a dye colour, for they are a budget reissue series for the waning CD market. The album hasn’t been remastered, so it remains a replica of the original release. Instead, I picked up the Sony Music Australia Gold Series reissue from 2017. I’ve no doubt you’ll be impressed and while I can’t recall the first time I ever became aware of Bullet For My Valentine, I know that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed their music ever since and class their recordings as a valuable asset to my music collection.įever, their third studio album, is available on vinyl but I don’t own a copy. If you’re not, stop reading this review right now and go and stream Fever. If you’re a fan of melodic metalcore, as I am, you’ll likely be familiar with Bullet For My Valentine.
